What to Expect at Shawnee Drive Community of Christ
Sunday mornings begin at 9:30 with breakfast. At 9:30, kids have Sunday School, while adults continue to gather and socialize. At 10:15, worship begins in the sanctuary with gathering hymns. Each service has an opportunity for everyone to share joys and concerns, share in scripture, enjoy a Children’s Moment, hear the Morning message, share contributions (optional and not expected of guests) with prayers and songs interspersed! On the first Sunday of a month, we celebrate communion and welcome everyone to participate At Christ’s table. On the third Sunday, after church, we share in a potluck lunch. We always have plenty and everyone is welcome to join.

Shawnee Drive Community of Christ is located on the northwest corner of Shawnee Drive and 44th Street. The entrance to the parking lot is on 44th Street.

Where do I go when I get there?
The entire building is handicap accessable. Just follow the sidewalk to the main entrance. You’ll find the Fellowship Hall on the right. People gather there before services. Bathrooms are to the left, and the Sanctuary is to the left all the way down the hall.
What should I wear?
Dress on Sunday leans toward casual, however you will find people dressed in their Sunday best and others in blue jeans, a t-shirt, and flip flops. Wear whatever makes you feel most comfortable, we are just glad you came!

Is this a child-friendly congregation?
YES!! Children are an important part of the Shawnee Drive family. We cherish the ministry shared by persons of all ages, and this includes our children. You will find children participating in worship services through prayer, music, testimony, and focus moments. They often serve as greeters and help in taking up the offertory.
Classes for kids are offered on Sunday mornings at 9:30 am, and Children are always welcome and included during the 10:15 am worship.
What is worship like?
Expect variety. Because the services are planned by a variety of people and the service leadership and participants change from week to week, no two services will ever be exactly alike. Some will be more traditional, others more contemporary, and most somewhere in-between. All will provide opportunity for you to share in music, scripture, and challenging words of hope, faith, and the love of Jesus Christ.

What other activities are available?
in addition to our weekly worship service, our community-focused events includes Family Fun Day (Saturday before Easter), Summer Camps, Back-to-School Carnival, building schools with Outreach International, Christmas Celebrations, cooking and sharing at the Center of Hope, and supporting community gatherings (weddings, showers, funerals, etc.).
To prepare for Easter, we host an annual Family Fun Day, complete with inflatable bounce houses, games, massive Egg Hunt (ages 12 and under) and food. This is open to the public and designed to give families a fun way to spend quality time together.
Summer Camps — Summer Camps are a way to detox from the busy world and connect with other quality, service-minded people. We find incredible value for kids and families to attend summer camps and we cover expenses for all interested campers. To request funding assistance to attend, contact the pastorate team.To see the complete list of Camp dates and opportunities, go to the Midlands Mission Center website.
Back to School Carnival – Getting ready for school is exciting and can be expensive. At this FREE carnival, Shawnee Drive CofC allows kids to earn their own school supplies with carnival games like Plinko, knocking over bottles and having fun. After the kids have earned all of their school supplies, inflatable bounce houses are available to enjoy!
Building Schools in Haiti — Shawnee Drive CofC has a long history of partnering with Outreach International to build and fund schools in Haiti. Each year, we host a delicious BBQ dinner and the proceeds go entirely to schools in Haiti.
Christmas Celebrations — In preparation for Christmas, our kids perform the biblical Christmas Story with costumes and songs. We take the good news on the road by sharing it at a nearby nursing home. All members and friends are also invited for an evening to sing Christmas carols. Our holiday season concludes with an 8am Christmas morning service.
Central Avenue Center of Hope — Shawnee Drive Commun ity of Christ supports the Central Avenue Center of Hope with making and serving monthly meals, donating to their Thrift Store and supporting their operations.
Community Gatherings (Weddings, Showers, Funerals, etc.) — We are happy to share our building to support community gatherings. We have hosted numerous weddings, wedding showers, baby showers, anniversary parties, reunions, funerals, Scout meetings, etc. If you have an event that you’d like to host at Shawnee Drive, please let the Pastorate know and we’ll check the calendar to assure there is no conflict and to discuss your hosting needs.
Pastoral Care Team services — We have a Pastoral Care Team of ministers who have experience supporting the community. If you would like to ask questions about Shawnee Drive, Community of Christ, or life in general, please reach out to us at pastorate@shawneedrive.org.
